About Woadworks

Established in 2001 and still proud to be a family run, artisan, natural skincare company we work from a small soaperie tucked high up in the North Pennines and set amongst the most beautiful wild scenery imaginable. This inspires us daily to create a growing range of completely natural products handmade using only carefully selected fruit oils, clays, waxes and butters. To create our natural skincare products we combine these gentle ingredients with our homegrown or organically wild growing herbs, bee products and botanicals which are suitable for all skin types including sensitive skins. While we emphatically make NO claims to heal skin conditions we specialise in making soothing products to help redress naturally the distressing symptons of skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, rosacia and dermatitis.

Determined to provide the highest quality ethically produced products, we have formed a synergistic long-term relationship with local suppliers who have also become close friends and who have the same company structure and ethics and take the same care with their products as Woadworks. For our more exotic oils and butters we use only a trusted UK based Fair Trade supplier who is as committed as we are to working with sustainable sources. We base our products around traditional, proven, effective cottage recipes which have survived for decades simply because they work.

You can be confident that none of our products contain any parabens, triclosan, phthalates, sodium laurel sulphate, stabilisers, petroleum or paraffin products or other harsh and nasty chemicals nor are they or any of the ingredients we use tested on animals. All are suitable for vegetarians and most are also vegan friendly. We do not use any artificial colouring in our products either, depending on natural infusions, fruit powders, mica and minerals and the addition of herbs and botanicals for texture and natural hues. This may mean that sometimes the products you buy will differ slightly in colour from previously as, according to the seasonal variations within plant structure the resultant colour will also vary. This is a true sign of a handmade, natural product and, provided it’s not grey, we will accept it!

Unlike some other handmade skincare manufacturers who will use a bought-in natural base of sterile emulsified oil and water to which they then add extra ingredients, all our products are made on our own premises from scratch using traditional methods of hand-blending oils and butters with the aforesaid home grown or ethically sourced herbs and botanicals, picked early in the morning and individually chosen for their abilities to add value to our recipes, and to suit specific skin types. Our gentle and traditional processing of these botanicals harnesses all the active goodness in the freshly picked plants so that every ingredient we use has a benefit for your skin

We keep our packaging to a minimum using biodegradable paper, cellophane, PET bottles and glass jars and are always looking for the most eco-friendly products which appear on the market. Unfortunately the UK still has a long way to go before it catches up with Europe in this regard…but we’re on the case. We reuse packaging as well as it seems crazy not to and customer suggestions for improvement are always more than welcome.

Genuinely handmade – not merely hand finished………

A plant picked locally is 100 times stronger than one that is not local and one picked by yourself is 1,000 times stronger”. – Rachel Corby (The Medicine Garden) quoted with permission – thanks.

Goats Milk and Propolis Daily Moisturiser
Goats Milk and Propolis Daily Moisturiser
    - for all problem and sensitive skin - including eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis (60g) NEW RECIPE - even more ACTIVE ingredients - now contains soothing Argan oil - renowned for it's beneficial effects and skin healing properties The addition of Organic Argan oil has made this cream slightly thicker in consistancy than previously but we feel the additional benefits outweigh this. I find that it takes a while to sink into the skin and would like to know what you think - if it's a problem we will need to think about revising the quantity...... drop us an email!! Dermatologists often recommend the use of organic whole, unpasteurised Goats Milk products to those suffering from skin complaints. As well as having the same ph as the human skin, Goats Milk contains Caprylic Acid which helps maintain a slightly acidic tenor to the skin, creating a highly effective anti-fungal action against the yeasts present in some skin conditions. The vitamins, proteins, minerals and alpha hydroxy acids contained in fresh whole Goats Milk are hugely beneficial for all skin types. Our new ingredient - Organic Argan oil is particularly rich in Vitamin E and the essential fatty acids (EFAs) as well as saponins and rare plant sterols important for healthy skin and is incredibly healing. We top it all off with Propolis - Natures perfect antifungal, antiviral and antibiotic complete system. This light moisturiser is unfragranced as the Propolis naturally adds a slight honey fragrance to the mix and also the natural colour. ...." I love this cream - it's really soothing on my face, feels rich and you only need a tiny amount which lasts all day...." - Sarah - Ethical Living .....
